The Portuguese winger/striker gave a short interview on the Spanish television program El Chiringuito de Jugones yesterday and discussed a number of issues.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been playing for Real Madrid since 2009. He has been involved heavily in the success of the club in recent years as he contributed with a record number of 450 goals for Los Blancos. Which makes him the all-time top scorer of the defending and reigning champions of Europe.
The program host Josep Pedrerol interviewed the galactico of Real Madrid and asked him about the potential arrival of another galactico; Neymar Jr who has been strongly linked to the Spanish capital side ever since he left their arch-rivals FC Barcelona. Cristiano Ronaldo who is known for his brutal honesty in front of the camera did not shy away from speaking his heart out once again with a smile on his face.
“I do not control these things, I’ve been here for eight years and there’s always talk of 50 players who are coming and in the end, nobody comes. In September many players will come and in the end, those of us who reach the finals are always the same.”
The 33-year-old has statistics which make people think that he’s Benjamine Button in real life. Josep asked him about his retirement plans which according to the Portuguese were a thing to be thought after a decade. Two years ago when Cristiano was 31 he claimed that his playing days in Madrid will continue until he’s 41. Now he joked about it and revised his plans revealing that his biological age is much younger.
“Did I say that? I am now 23 years of biological age. Repeat the sentence? I’m fine, happy, how I’m going to complain when we play another final (UEFA Champions League) on Saturday, people are with Cristiano, the fans.”
Real Madrid had a poor start to the season which cost them the La Liga title. Many experts and fans believe that not having Ronaldo for the first few games (Cristiano was banned for 5 games at the start of the season for pushing the referee in Spanish Super Cup against Barcelona) and for not scoring as per the set precedent in the first half of the season. This called for the discussion of Real Madrid’s dependence on the Portuguese forward who has scored 15 goals in 12 UCL games this season. Ronaldo addressed the issue in his words and snubbed the talk for once and for all claiming that only his household depends on him and not Real Madrid.
“I’m fine, but there are things that do not depend on me. In my house? Yes. In Madrid? No.”
Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked to a move away from Madrid every season by labeling that he is angry or has dressing room issues but in reality, nothing comes close to the friendship of Ronaldo who dismisses each rumor of him portraying mistreated in Madrid. He reveals he is loved by the fans, the squad and especially the club president, Florentino Perez who probably took his best decision of life by signing Cristiano in 2009.
“In the locker room I feel that my teammates care for me, I’m left with that, they know what I am, I do not cheat and I keep that. The good times and the bad times, but there are things that can not be controlled, in general, I feel loved in Madrid and that is the most important thing, Florentino gives me and others the love in their own way. The president’s best friend, you have to get along professionally, he treats me well.”
In the end, Cristiano Ronaldo signed off by answering quick one-liners to which he responded in his own style and gave away nothing but morale-boosting answers for the team before they head to Kiev.
The best club in the world according to him.
“I still think, Madrid is the best club in the world.”
His thoughts on Ballon d’Or winner this season and his own chances to win one.
“It’s still too early to talk about that.”
On being asked if he’s the best player in the squad, Cristiano Ronaldo gave a heartwarming reply which will definitely boost his teammates’ morale in the UEFA Champions League Final.
“They’re all here: Bale, Benzema, Asensio, Lucas Vázquez …”
Eventually, he was asked about the cliche topic of who will start in the UEFA Champions League Final in Kiev against Liverpool.
“That’s already for Zidane, I’m not going to mess his head, those who play will do well.”
Real Madrid will now travel to Kiev, Ukraine tomorrow where they will play against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League Final as the Spanish side look forward to winning their 3rd consecutive European Cup and the 4th one in last 5 years. If they manage to win they will become the first and the only club to do so in the modern era of the competition. Last year the whites of Madrid became the first club ever to defend the title in its new era.
The match will kick off at 7:45 PM CET on 26th May 2018, Saturday, and will be televised live all over the globe via the official broadcasting partners of UEFA.
