The Argentine who has recently been giving some really candid interviews has made bold claims in his latest interaction with the Catalan based news agency, Dario Sport.
The 5 time Ballon d’Or winner was asked about the resignation of his rival club’s manager, Zinedine Zidane. Messi admits it came as surprise to him and was not anticipated by anyone.
“I was surprised. Really surprised. I didn’t expect it. I suppose no one did. He will have his reasons. It’s also good to know when to leave. No one can reproach him. I don’t know why he left…”
Though Barcelona is doing well in La Liga and the big names are linked to a transfer with the Catalan based club in every transfer window. Messi doesn’t seem to be impressed with the performance of the youth promotion project. The Barcelona man himself graduated from La Masia which was considered as the best academy in the world but not anymore.
“The club has lost a bit the commitment to the academy (La Masia).”
“Important players have gone and it is rare for that to happen at the best club in the world.”
Messi further talked about his low moments in Barcelona when he was charged with tax evasion and later was proven guilty. The 30-year-old was reduced to tears as per his own statements.
“I had moments where I would cry at Barcelona. It is normal that this happens with the passing of the years. You suffer and the year with the tax issues was hard.”
Messi further revealed that he was close to depression and was feeling victimized. He also believes that Madrid had a hand in the matter to further pressurize him.
“I didn’t quite reach depression, but the way they attacked me, how things about me, my father and the people around me were reported — it was very difficult and I felt very attacked.”
“There was an order from Madrid attack me, beat me and take advantage of a moment of weakness,”
“It was very hard to live through that.”
Currently, Messi’s all-time favorite rival Cristiano Ronaldo is also under speculation for tax evasion case. The Real Madrid man has been a bit public with his displeasure for the lack of support from his club. Messi, in this case, responded that he was lucky to have the support of people around him.
“I was lucky. I had the support of my people, of Barca, of Catalonia and this helped me feel more relaxed.”
