Cristiano Ronaldo talks about Portugal’s opening match of FIFA World Cup 2018 against Spain tonight.

The Portuguese footballer will captain his national side against Spain tonight. This will be the opening World Cup 2018 game for both the sides. The reigning European champions will be facing the former world champions in Russia. This will be there first competitive meeting since the Euro semi-final 2012, which saw the Spanish side advance on penalties and carry on to lift the title.
Cristiano Ronaldo admits that earlier when the draw was announced, it was a light moment initially. Later on, the side got serious for facing one of the toughest opponents in the competition/
“When we heard the news, we were having some laughs at first, then it became very serious. We know Spain is one of the favorites, they have won a World Cup, Portugal has not. This makes it better for us, we don’t have pressure.”
Spain has quite a few Real Madrid men featuring in the World Cup squad: Carvajal, Ramos, Nacho, Isco, Asensio, Vazquez. Portugal, on the other hand, has one of the best players of Real Madrid; Cristiano Ronaldo and an ex-defender Pepe.
Cristiano Ronaldo reveals what it feels like to face his own teammates. He admits it is an emotional moment.
“It is going to be an emotional moment as I will play against my teammates from Real Madrid. But that’s how football is; they defend their colors and I’ll defend mine. I hope the best team wins.”
In the previous years, Cristiano Ronaldo faced many of his Real Madrid teammates but had to console them as his crushed their hopes of winning the Euro 2016 title. Some of the players were: Gareth Bale (Wales), Luka Modric and Mateo Kovacic (Croatia).
Will the Portuguese console his Spanish teammates yet again is to be seen. The match will kick-off at 20:00 CET, tonight.
