After the game vs Iran, the captain of Spanish NT spoke to media in the mixed room area. Sergio Ramos believes that his side is content with the performance though the former world champions struggled to get a 1-0 victory. This being said Spain is now in a relatively more comfortable position to be the group leaders and advance into the quarter-finals of FIFA World Cup 2018.

“We’re happy, we’ve taken another step forward, now we must try to top the group. That’s our goal, I think we can improve in all aspects.”

Iran’s goal was canceled by VAR on review due to an evident offside decision. Sergio Ramos claims that the decision was correct and that players need to keep calm as everything can be reviewed.

“Practically everything was given, you have to try and keep a cool head because VAR is in use here. It will determine many moves and actions.”

Lastly, the Spanish captain has hit back at Diego Maradona in his latest comments. The former Napoli player had criticised the defender claiming he is not a true leader while he compared Ramos to Diego Godin.

Sergio Ramos has gone out of his way as the captain of Real Madrid to shower praise on the rival’s playmaker. Lionel Messi. According to the 32-year-old defender Messi is far better than Diego Maradona.

“In Argentina, they know that Maradona is light years away from the best Argentine player in history, which for me is Lionel Messi.”

That being said Messi will lead Argentina tonight against Croatia tonight in a must-win game if they fancy a place in the quarter-finals of the tournament. Croatia who are led by the star midfielder of Real Madrid, Luka Modric are currently the group leaders and the win against Argentina will pave their path into the second round of World Cup.

Denmark vs Australia (13:00 CET)

France vs Peru (16:00 CET)
