The Croatian side triumphed over England in the 2-1 win which will send the Croats to their first FIFA World Cup Final. The nation which was freed  27 years ago earlier featured in the semi-final of the FIFA World Cup in 1998.

The English media and fand were hopeful to get their hands on the trophy for the first time since 1966. The pundits and the fans were confident enough and made some cocky statements throughout the tournament which was eventually responded by the Croatian squad. The English fans famous chant “Football is coming home, it’s coming home” has been taken off till at least 2022 World Cup.

Speaking to ITV, the Croatian captain Luka Modric claimed that the English side had disrespected the squad and that was used as a motivation by the players which can be seen in the result.

“People were talking … English journalists, pundits from television. They underestimated Croatia tonight and that was a huge mistake. All these words from them we take, we were reading and we were saying: ‘OK, today we will see who will be tired.’ They should be more humble and respect their opponents more.

We showed again that we were not tired – we dominated the game mentally and physically.

We should have killed the game even before extra time. This is an amazing achievement for us – it’s a dream come true after such a long time. We are in the final and that is the biggest success in Croatia history. We have to be proud.”

Ivan Perisic, who gave life to Croatia in the 68th minute by scoring the equalizer claimed that the game was tough but his teammates read the game well and responded in an appropriate way which handed them the victory.

“We knew what was at stake and how important the semi-final is for a small country like Croatia. We started slowly today but we showed our character and again came from a goal behind just like we did in the previous knockout round.Twenty years ago I was back at home in my hometown and I rooted for Croatia wearing the Croatia jersey. I could only dream of playing for my country and scoring one of the most important goals to reach the final.”

Sime Vrsaljko the Croatian right-back had also responded to the pundits and analysists who claimed that England now has an improved team now and can advance to the World Cup without Croatia causing them much of problem.

“The all-round perception was that this is a new-look England who have changed their ways of punting long balls upfield but when we pressed them it turned out that they haven’t.”

Croatia’s coach, Zlatko Dalic, claims that the last three games against Denmark, Russia, and England, which ended up in ET has not killed the motivation or tired his side and they are far from satisfied by just reaching the final.

“We deserved to reach the final. What the lads played tonight was fantasy, they’ve made history. This tournament will be won by a team with character. We were 1-0 down in three games in a row. For Croatian football and the country this is history being written – I can’t think of a smaller country to reach the final. This has been the topic of discussion the past 20 years. Maybe that game has historical significance maybe, the dear Lord is giving us the chance to settle a score.”

Croatian side now will prepare to play against France in the FIFA World Cup 2018 Final where the Croats once again will enter the match as underdogs but that would be a mistake France would not like to repeat as England did.

There are now only two games left for the FIFA World Cup 2018:
