The Real Madrid boss addressed the pre-match press conference before kicking off the LaLiga season on Sunday at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu where the Los Blancos will face Getafe. Julen Lopetegui’s side will be looking forward to a winning start after suffering a blow in the UEFA Super Cup against Atletico Madrid.

Julen Lopetegui will be starting the era of Real Madrid’s life after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo which leaves a void to be filled. The coach remains confident and lists the things he wants to see in his side tomorrow.

“I want to see a side that’s ambitious, that works together, shows its talent and confidence.”

Lopetegui was asked by a journalist of how he compares his Spanish NT side which he coached to the current Real Madrid squad. The question was not liked by the tactician who tried to knock it off.

“That’s like comparing apples and oranges.”

Julen Lopetegui made it clear that his side will be competing for every title and will not be relaxed due to the recent success in the UEFA Champions League. The team remains hungry to win more and the coach feels he has all the right number of players needed.

“We have total faith in the players we have, and its the job of the coaching staff to get the most out of them. We have a lot of talent at our disposal. We have total faith in the players we have, and its the job of the coaching staff to get the most out of them. They [the less heralded players in the squad] have a lot more quality than people seem to think.”

Julen Lopetegui also complimented the opposition who according to the Spaniard have improved in the recent times.

“We’re up against a side who had a great season last season who have strengthened well this summer and have had a really good pre-season.”

Real Madrid have not splashed the cash on a new galactico to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo which has been a worrying thought for the fans around the globe who feel that such a mistake would cost the club silverware. Julen Lopetegui addressed of what he expects before the transfer window closes.

“What I expect before the transfer window closes is that we show that we can win the games we have to play. More signings? All I’m thinking about is tomorrow’s game. It would be a mistake if I spoke about what isn’t the priority right now. Every coach aims to make his team a perfect one… We’ve worked well and we’ve had to deal with the issue of players have been at the World Cup – like every other team – and the weeks of work ahead are going to be key. I feel good… We’ve got high hopes for the season ahead.”

Real Madrid recently signed Courtois from Chelsea for 35 million euros and that now makes a total of 5 goalkeepers in the squad with Navas, Kiko, Lunin, and Zidane. Lopetegui discussed how he plans to rotate the goalkeepers and how many of them will he actually keep in the squad.

“Courtois and Navas are two great goalkeepers… I don’t think there’s a magic formula. I believe in managing and analyzing the situation week in, week out. They’re both lads who have proven their ability at the highest level. I think it’s a good problem to have. Obviously we’re not going to continue with five goalkeepers, we’ll work with three. We’ll make decisions in that regard when they have to be made.”

Lopetegui finished by stating that he has full faith in his team and did not give away any idea if another player will be coming in the transfer window which closes on 31st August 2018.

“It’s the players who are here who are important, not those who aren’t here.”

Real Madrid will play against Getafe on Sunday in Estadio Santiago Bernabeu at 22:15 CET.
