Marco Asensio does a rapid question and answers round with MARCA ahead of FIFA World Cup 2018 held in Russia.

The Spanish youngster has been called up for his national duty and will be representing his country in Russia for the FIFA World Cup 2018. In a recent interview with MARCA, Marco Asensio got candid and discussed about Cristiano Ronaldo, favorites for World Cup and his memories and experience with Spanish NT.
Here is what the current Real Madrid showbiz footballer had to say when asked about his first World Cup memory.
“Jotting down all of the results on a big wallchart with my brother.”
The former Mallorca forward claims that his favorite memory of the competition was when the Barcelona legend brought the trophy to Spain after scoring in the final against the Netherlands in 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. He also claims that was the best goal in World Cup history.
“Andres Iniesta’s goal, no doubt.”
He continued and recalled the worst defeat his national side suffered according to him.
“Against Holland at the Brazil World Cup.”
Though the worst defeat is quite in the past, but the favorite victory of Spain according to Asensio was in Wanda Metropolitano when the home side won 6-1 against the South-American country.
“The victory here against Argentina.”
On being asked what would the forward do if he scored in his debut World Cup, Asensio had an interesting answer. The 22-year-old has been known for scoring in his debut matches such as La Liga debut with Real Madrid, UEFA Champions League Final debut, Real Madrid’s debut match in UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla, FIFA Club World Cup etc.
“I don’t know. Take off my shirt and start running.”
FIFA World Cup has a charm of all the big star names representing their country with the passion for the competition occurring every 4 years. There can be a number of players people would advise to keep an eye on for phenomenal performances but Marco Asensio believes only one name can’t be picked up as the best.
“There are many and they all made a difference, I can’t say one.”
Marco Asensio warns the opponents as he names the breakout player of the competition.
“I’m going to say me.”
A couple of years ago during UEFA Euro 2016 in France, there was a new side; Iceland, which surprised the world with their incredible campaign. Marco Asensio believes there isn’t any one particular team which shall be considered as the underdog at this moment.
“I don’t know. So much can happen that I couldn’t say one.”
Asensio names another team which he thinks are the favorites to win the FIFA World Cup 2018.
“I believe in Spain, but if I have to say another team I’d say Brazil.”
Finally, Asesnio answered the rumors of Cristiano Ronaldo leaving the club.
“I can’t imagine playing in Madrid without Cristiano Ronaldo.”
The youngster will be facing his 5 time Ballon d’Or winner teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, as Spain and Portugal kickoff the World Cup campaign against each other on 15th of June 2018 at 7:00 PM CET.
